Trusts textbook - I m afraid I can t agree with the previous reviews. I think it is the breezy style that is precisely what is wrong with this book. There is so much waffle that you are constantly trying to get the nub of what s being said. The structure is very confused, at one point the author says because one particular topic is complex it is best to provide a roadmap for the rest of the chapter - Why not provide a roadmap every chapter and use clear headings/sub-headings to boot? It just feels like another textbook where the writer enjoys the sound of his own prose and isn t really thinking about how the book is going to be utilised by the student - I don t want to have to read a novel on trusts, I want to be able to dip in and out and instantly grab hold of what is relevant.Having said this the discussion of academic debate is very useful but again it would be even better if it was put within a clear, succint structure. For an example of how you can get rules, cases and academic debate and put it in a well-structured, concise manner see McKendrick, Contract Law - this is how every textbook should be written.
BEST TRUST BOOK EVER! - This book is Excellent! trust is an intellectually demanding subject but with Penner it is also enjoyable. Written in easy to understand, everyday language, infused with sarcasm and the odd joke, it gives you the core topics with all the analysis included. Trust law has the orthdox views well, un-orthadox views. Some text books do not give both, but Penner does. Everything you need to not just pass the exam but ace it is wrapped up in this little paperback.
A trusts book that makes sense - As it says on the back of the book, this is not a textbook which makes trusts easy. That much is impossible, the law of trusts is complex and difficult. What this book does do, and far better than any other equity textbooks i ve read, is to explain these difficult concepts in a clear, precise and easy to understand fashion.I used it for my revision, but was gutted I only discovered it then. I wish I had used it all year, so I would urge anyone looking for a book to buy at the start of your course, get this one!! It is not just a revision guide (although is excellent as that) and can and in my opinion should be used throughout the year. Trusts is a hard subject, don t make it worse for yourselves by trying a heavyweight book. This book is the answer. FACT.
Excellent analysis and very useful - This is a clear and informative guide to the law of trusts that is written in a far more accessible style than most trusts textbooks. The night before my Equity exam at university, I glanced through this book (in quite a state of desperation!) and found clear, concise explanations to several concepts I had been unable to fathom all year. For a full explanation of the law, you may wish to turn to a weightier tome, but if you want to understand the key principles of trusts at degree level and have a reasonably short time to do it in, this probably your best option - it has just about the right level of detail to help you get to grips with stuff you will hopefully have time to read in more detail later... Penner s style makes the book both straightforward and interesting (not an easy task when dealing with this area of the law!) and puts this text in the realms of the very, very useful.
Excellent bird s eye view of the law of trusts - Reading Penner is like reading a storybook. At some points, the reader might even forget that he/she is reading something that has heavy academic weight. Penner presents his materials in a breezy, easy to understand manner to those who are newcomers to the law of trust. This book is indispensible for anyone wishing to do well in the trusts exams, so get one before you regret it.
